The Official Counterfeiter

As “the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil” (1 Tim. 6:10, NIV),  it would be wise to scrutinize the current monetary system of the United States, which is presently the reserve currency of the world.

Vic Lockman, a former Disney cartoonist with economic and biblical insight, has given his permission to put his 1969 booklet The Official Counterfeiter on line.  Although it is dated, I think you will find all the essential facts still very relevant to today.  With evangelical voters exerting a major influence on Republican presidential politics, Mr. Lockman’s work can go a long way towards educating us about a very fundamental, but (before Ron Paul) misunderstood and unnoticed issue.

This unique work makes a major contribution to making sound, biblical economics comprehensible to a non-technical audience. It is a great tool for learning to discern what “just weights and balances” are in the modern world (Lev. 19:36; Proverbs 11:1, 16:11; Ezek. 45:10).  This is a crash course in economics for everyone.  We do well to understand how the world really works so we can make biblically and economically informed decisions in casting our votes for national leaders.

  1. After reviewing “The Official Counterfeiter”, financial analyst Gary North commented about it on his website, “This is the most effective brief explanation of the FED that I have ever seen. . . .”

  2. When I started looking into where the money was coming from to buy off the politicians and subvert the immigration laws of the world, I came across what may be the root of many of our problems. Fiat Money. No matter how much real money people can put together to build their countries the way they want there are those that can print up what ever it takes to get their way. Maybe this will help make the danger of fiat money clear. Imagine you and me are setting across from each other. We create enough money to represent all of the world’s wealth. Each one of us has one SUPER Dollar in front of him. You own half of everything and so do I. I’m the government though. I get bribed into creating a Central Bank. You’re not doing what I want you to be doing so I print up myself eight more SUPER Dollars to manipulate you with. All of a sudden your SUPER Dollar only
represents one tenth of the wealth of the world! That isn’t the only thing though. You need to get busy and get to work because YOU’VE BEEN STIFFED with the bill for the money I PRINTED UP to get YOU TO DO what I WANTED. That to me represents what has been happening to the economy, and us, and why so many of our occupations just can’t keep up with the fake money presses.

  3. Rob,

Well done. Vic Lockman has been a national treasure for four decades; I call him “Jack Chick meets Murray Rothbard”. Today on my blog, “This Bloodless Liberty- The Book”, I’ve linked back to your PDF version online…

Vic only got one thing wrong in that classic booklet. The 1913 Federal Reserve Act was not the inception of Congress’ financial crime wave. It began 50 years earlier with its 1862 Legal Tender Act. Then in 1871, after the national destruction of Lincoln’s War began to settle and cooler heads prevailed, the US Supreme Court ruled the obvious: that paper was not lawful U.S. money. Congress’ counterfeiting ended…for only a few months, during which time the bankers looted the national treasury of about $12 trillion (in present value) in gold and silver.

Ulysses Grant was a tool of the mercantilists, as were the two hand-picked new justices of the high court, which then immediately (that same year, 1871) reversed itself to begin creating “well-settled law” for paper money — even though the Constitution is clear: U.S. money can ONLY be gold and silver coin, unless an amendment to the Constitution is duly ratified by the states per Article V.

The high court committed its final act of well-settled lawlessness in its preposterously, circularly-reasoned Juilliard-v-Greenman decision in 1884. I lay out this timeline and other salient details in this blog post…

Chris Martenson has made quite a name for himself over the past few years with his book and video series “The Crash Course: The Unsustainable Future of our Economy, Energy, and Environment”. I don’t disagree that developed and developing nations have some uphill challenges ahead. Christians simply can’t pooh-pooh Peak Oil, the state of our coastal zones, seas, fisheries, coral reefs, and world topsoil conditions. Biblical stewardship calls us to at least engage these things seriously. Martenson does a passable job on this score, but as I explain in this review of his book, he is amazingly blithe about Congress’ financial crimes, refusing to even opine whether their Fed scam is right or wrong!

We live in an age when, more than ever since the first disciples planted the early church, Christians are called to be salt and light. If we will do so, the world — including nominal Muslims living without hope — will beat a path to real, robust, joyful Christianity.

    Keep up your good work.
